Rashida Jones found success earlier this year with her procedural spoof sitcom "Angie Tribeca" on TBS, and now she’s teaming up with sister channel TNT for a dark new comedy series. The network has put in a pilot order for "Claws," an hourlong series centered around five Florida manicurists who enter the traditionally male world of organized crime.
The project was originally conceived for HBO and comes from Jones and Will McCormack’s Le Train Train production house. Jones and McCormack will be executive produces, while "Welcome to Me" screenwriter Eliot Laurence will co-executive produce the series and write it.

– As if there were any doubt, two of Fox’s most successful sitcoms were renewed Thursday afternoon. "The Last Man on Earth" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" were picked up for third and fourth seasons (respectively), promising fans full new seasons featuring pyromania and "Die Hard" references (again, respectively). The word is still out on whether or not freshman Fox sitcom "The Grinder" will return, but you better believe we’ll keep reminding Fox they need to do just that whenever we get the chance.
– Apple has officially greenlighted its first original series, and guess what? It’s about making apps. Despite what could be as a power play to compete with Netflix and HBO in the original programming game, the untitled project seems geared toward promoting Apple’s app store more than it designates a shift toward extensive film or TV creation…or is it? Reports surfaced in February that Apple was behind an original series produced by and starring Dr. Dre. Knowing the company’s penchant for surprises, it’s hard to say what will be coming next.
– After picking up former Focus Features head James Schmaus’ directorial debut "Indignation" out of Sundance for a hefty $2.5 million, Deadline now reports that Lionsgate (alongside Roadside Attractions) will release the film on July 29. Based on Philip Roth’s novel of the same name, the film stars Logan Lerman as a young Jewish student who heads off to college in the fifties, only to have his worldview rocked by what he finds there. The film will reportedly first open in New York and Los Angeles before rolling out during the month of August.
– Ava DuVernay’s distribution collective, ARRAY, has announced an official release date for its thirteenth theatrical exposition. Directed by Amanda Marsalis, "Echo Park" will hit theaters on April 15. The film stars Mamie Gummer and Anthony Okungbowa, it chronicles live in the eponymous LA neighborhood of its title, including a burgeoning romance between Gummer and Okungbowa’s characters.
– "ASPIREist," a feature news show empowering 21st century viewers to take action on the issues that matter to them, will debut Sunday, April 3 on USA Networks. It will simultaneously be freely available to stream on Flipboard, as well as Facebook and YouTube. Produced by former "60 Minutes" producers Shawn Efran and Solly Granatstein, the show will put a spotlight on inspirational stories and enable viewers to take immediate action on issues, including mass incarceration, immigration, teen suicide, transgender awareness and education, and more.
