TV is no stranger to telling a story from different character angles. Showtime’s “The Affair” has made an entire three-season run out of looking back at key moments in a doomed, dangerous series of romantic encounters, reframing them through the eyes of participants and observers alike.

“Liar,” the latest series from Sundance TV looks to be covering that territory in a new way. From creators Harry and Jack Williams (“Fleabag”), “Liar” stars Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd as two people each trying to piece together their versions of what happened on a fateful date.

Froggatt, best known for her role as Mrs. Bates on “Downton Abbey,” stars as a teacher whose evening with surgeon Andrew (Gruffudd) leads to a swirl of violence, trauma, and accusations. Sundance has released its latest teaser for the series, told from Laura’s point of view.

Last week, the network debuted a teaser for the series, this time from Andrew’s perspective. A cute dinner date with bloody, disastrous consequences, this has the makings of a complicated, tense TV drama.

The show’s ensemble also includes Warren Brown, Zoe Tapper, and Shelley Conn. “Liar” will begin its six-episode first season, airing on Wednesday nights. It’s another high-profile drama for the network, which is set for the premiere of Jane Campion’s “Top of the Lake: China Girl” this Sunday.

“Liar” premieres on SundanceTV on September 27.
